The Bible teaches principles of modesty, separation, and simplicity for all parts of the life of Christians including the clothing we wear. Therefore we need to be consistent with our profession of godliness in wearing clothes that cover the body modestly (not excessively tight, loose, or showy: no shorts), and have styles of haircuts befitting a follower of Christ. We must be careful to not follow trends that are sensual or luxuriant.
The current fashions of the world sensualize and intentionally expose the female body so it is necessary to be very careful how we dressed. Therefore we agree the woman must dress modestly and wear dresses or skirts that do not expose above mid-calf. We ask the sisters to wear a covering or veiling of substantial size that is scriptural and also that the sisters be consistent in wearing the covering.
If sisters choose to wear culottes for social activities or work that would increase her ability to remain modest while doing those activities, they should be of “sufficient length” to cover the knees when sitting, have “sufficient material” to avoid a tightness on the legs that would give the appearance of “shorts,” and should only be worn with the approval of her husband or father.
For the sisters we strongly encourage a covering or a hanging veil of sufficient size to cover a substantial part of the head. We urge elders, husbands, and fathers to be diligent in maintaining a consistent Biblical pattern for the veiling, free from fashion and decorative appearance. We also urge our sisters to be submissive and cooperative.
Because wearing shorts borders on immodesty, can leave a poor testimony, and may cause offense, we strongly encourage men to wear full length trousers for all public life. Exceptions could include the wearing of shorts below the knee for non-public activities such as water sports, etc.
Since the tie serves no practical purpose other than ornamentation, and out of respect for the convictions of others, we appeal to our brethren to abstain from wearing a tie in or at any church related activity.
On all personal appearance; Jesus and the Scriptures call us to a simple, modest, unadorned lifestyle, and a separation from the world and its fads, fashions, and ornamentation. Jesus’ followers will seek to avoid immodest and form-revealing clothing, we also strongly encourage unlettered and non-graphic clothing & apparel except for work logos or other very good reasons doing all to the honor and glory of our Lord Jesus.
Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 1Pet 3:3
In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 1Tim 2:9
Here are a few video's from a Christian mom in Texas that may provide some ideas for our sisters in finding and purchasing modest clothing for themselves and daughters;
